Steel Panther at The Canal Room, NYC, 04/01/08

On the west coast these guys are HUGE.  They sell out the Key Club each Monday night, have celeb guests basically every show, and are a must-see for anyone visiting LA.  Last night Steel Panther took their half comedy half music act to The Canal Room downtown NYC.  Usually this place is packed with sweaty grinding hip hop fiends, but last night it was chock full of metal music industry cunts and insiders.  Completely sold out.  Long live hair metal!!  It will fuck your girlfriend!!  (I cant take credit for that bit of genius, it was on a poster in the club).

The set included some older originals (from back in the day when they were called Metal Shop), some from a bit a later (from when they were called Metal Skool), and of course some of the latest to match their latest name.   Ninety-nine percent of the stage banter in between songs involved bangin' groupies, with some crowd participation thrown in.  Highlights of the night included:
-Scott Ian joining on stage to play on "Asian Hooker".  The guys gave him shit for being so short and he actually laughed it off.
-Banter with a drunk chick in the first row.  I was equally drunk but hidden  in the crowd.  From what I remember she mumbled about wanting to blow the band, then about her 'fabulous boyfriend', stumbled a bit, then concluded by bringing Mom up on stage to dance.
-Guitarist, Satchel's 5 minute plus guitar solo which included EVERY cliche cheeseball-yet-epic guitar solo.   And he nailed it!

After the show me and the roomie decided it was a good idea to stick around and consume even more booze.  I ended up spending the night chatting with Ralph from TheTourBus about God-knows-what until finally it was time to stumble home.
