Monster Magnet at Gramercy Theater last night (5/15/09)

Monster Magnet hit the stage last night to a fairly packed crowd at Gramercy Theater.  Dave Wyndorf, once sexy and cracked out, looked sober and monster-size.  I suppose his recent addiction to food is less harmful than his former addictions, but it still doesn't seem to be helpig the band put out new music or tour any more frequently.   Last night was a strange gig for just those reasons - it was one of only a few dates in the US, and there was no album or new music that they were promoting.  4-Way Diablo is the bands most recent release, but that's already 2 years old now so *fart noise*.

Interestingly enough the band only played 1 song off Diablo.  Most of the set was off either Superjudge or Dopes to Infinity.  It was like being back in 98, only fatter and older.  The show was good though, and Dave sounded on.  They played for about an hour & a half and opened with "Dopes To Infinity" continuted on pretty much straight through for an hour till they hit their biggie, "Space Lord" (mothah fucka!).  Dave joked that the last time he was in NYC he was spending his time ODing, and noted with a smile that he was slightly larger in build now.   They then came back on and closed out the show with a 4 song encore that ended with "Spine".
