Band Of the Week - Sleep!

All you Matt Pike (High On Fire) fans will be very pleased with the news that comes with this week's Band Of The Week.   In a time before High On Fire, there was a massively influential, yet be it very underground stoner rock/doom metal band, called Sleep.  Sleep are one of those bands that gets only one of the following responses from people: "Who the fuck are Sleep?"  OR "SLEEP!  Those guys are incredible".  No one 'sorta' likes the band- you either know them well, or don't know them at all.

Well, now they are back.  After a short run lasting throughout the 90s, the band split in '97 almost immediately after releasing their second album.  Sleep consisted of Al Cisneros who went on to create Om and Matt Pike who finally broke out of the underground scene and gained commercial success with High On Fire.   Beginning in September, original members Al and Matt will join up with drummer Jason Roeder (Neurosis) to perform Holy Mountain straight through.    You can catch Sleep live in NYC on September 8th at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple in Brooklyn.  That venue blows monkey bum, but this show should be worth catching.
