Thin Lizzy, new name, new singer, new album...

As you may or may not know, the remaining members of Thin Lizzy got back together with vocalist Ricky Warwick (who did past work with the band), and added a new guy, Jimmy DeGrasso, to form the band.  No, they are not called Thin Lizzy Part 2, but instead 'Black Star Riders'.  The band name sounds like a  crappy biker gang, but heck, it's nice to see these guys back to making music. The bands full lineup is:

-Ricky Waywick (vocals)
-Scott Gorham (guitar)
-Damon Johnson (guitar)
-Marco Mendoza (bass)
-Jimmy DeGrasso (drums)

Black Star Riders are set to enter a Los Angeles studio next week with producer Kevin Shirley (who worked with Zeppelin, Maiden, Aerosmith and Rush) to begin recording their debut album.  The album is set for a May 2013 release via Nuclear Blast.  Nuclear Blast is definitely not the way I would have gone, considering when I think of the label I think of bands like Hammerfall, Dimmu Borgir, and Symphony X.... but I digress.

Back in October 2012, what was then Thin Lizzy announced that they would not be recording any new material under that name.  Despite this, the upcoming BSR album will feature material the band wrote while touring under the Thin Lizzy name.  Vocalist Ricky Warwick says:
"We are all very excited about the music that we have created for Black Star Riders. The synergy between the five of us has been phenomenal and I can't wait for the world to hear these songs."

The band was signed by Monte Conner - former A&R leader at Roadrunner now turned Nuclear Blast president.  It looks like Conners influence of at Nuclear may take take the label to a broader audience.  I'm looking forward to hear the new album.
