In Memoriam

South African music festival Witchfest in 2008 was one of the first festival reviews I did when None More Blakk started up.  Carcass was the headliner, but one of the bands that really stood out to me was South Africa's very own Warthane.  I got to know the guys in the band at the festival since the friend I was staying with was good friends with them.   It turned out not only were Warthane great thrashers and a black metal force up on stage, but they were just a fun group of guys to hang out with.  

Recently I got some bad news that the guitarist of Warthane, Nazar Berezovsky, was killed in a car accident late on Oct 8th.  I don't know the details of the accident, but I can say that some of the roads in SA were completely unpaved and I could see how it would cause accidents.  It's such sad news, I don't really know what to say.  My thoughts are with my friend Simon who introduced me to the band, Nazar's family, and of course to Warthane who had so much potential and were really starting to make a splash.  I hope for Nazar's sake those guys continue to make great music.  RIP, buddy.
