12.12.12.

Who can forget National Slayer Day??   Well, if  6/6/6 was evil, what does that make today?

Twice as evil!!

About damn time

Ok, so after today there is one last thing that we can bitch about the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame.... finally, Rush will be inducted (along with Heart, Public Enemy, Donna Summer, Albert King and Randy Newman).   Deep Purple were among the others up for the spot, but being that it's the Rock N Roll HOF and they don't know their ass from their elbow, they seem to feel that Donna summer is just more RnR.

Introducing Stage 48

It seems there is a new venue in NYC.  And by 'new venue', I mean an old horse stable that was built in the 1950s and converted into a concert hall.  Stage 48 opened a few months back, and although there doesn't seem to be much publicity popping up around this place, there are a few notable rock legends scheduled to play.   Uli Jon Roth (you know him from the Scorpions) will take the stage for an all-day "Sky Seminar", which starts at 8am!  Concert will be later at night.  The website has basically no info on what the seminar includes, but the fact that doors open at 6am and it starts at 8am seems bizarro to me.

Also hitting up the stage (48) will be Y&T on March 23rd.  This one looks like it will be a normal concert, so 6am door call here.

NY Area Concert Listings

****Updated at night to include: Long Island shows.   This includes an AWESOME show on December 16th featuring Twisted Sister doing one of their kickass/hilarious Christmas sets, and will be hosted by Andrew WK (love him).  Also, the opener is Adrenaline Mob.  If they don't sound familiar to you, then let me fill you in - MIKE PORTNOY is a member.  Oh and did I mention Yankee Bernie Williams will be there?   KICK ASS!

Otherwise, I would say the best added show would be Soulfly on March 14th. (And I am not gonna lie, that Kix show in April makes me pretty excited).

Tuesday's Metal Releases

Metallica/Slayer/Megadeth/Anthrax - The Big 4 - Live from Sofia, Bulgaria [5 CD/2 DVD Box set] (Warner Brothers)

Slash at Terminal 5 - 9/15/2010

Not many acts can haul my ass over to Manhattan's west side venue Terminal 5.   The venue is a former night club (anyone remember Exit?) and the massive main floor and 3 tiers of balcony do not foster the right environment for a show.  BUT, when the act playing T5, it's time to suck it up and make the trek over. Slash hit the stage to a jam packed crowd; the floor was packed from front to back (I peeped Samantha Ronson rocking out in the balcony). The touring lineup of the band consisted of Bobby Schneck on rhythm guitar, Todd Kerns on bass, Brent Fitz on drums, and Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge fame behind the mic. Not being an Alter Bridge fan myself, I really didn't know much about Myles other than the few songs he sings on Slashs solo album. Well, I was blown away. He managed to morph his voice in such a unique way that he successfully sang material from Slash's Snakepit, GnR, and Velvet Revolver. This is not even to mention that Slashs solo album features a diverse group of vocalist who Myles all nailed. They opened up with Slash's "Ghost" (sung by Ian Astbury on the album), and then switched gears into a slew of GnR songs including an awesome version of Civil War. As the set went and and flipped from Velvet Revolver song to Slash song and back, I couldnt help but to be really impressed with Myles the whole way through.
OH, and then on top of that, there was Slash to enjoy. Hidden behind his classic top hat and glasses Slash does 'Slash' like no one else. The man is cartoon character of mystery and talent and at Terminal 5 he was both. Highlights of Slash's personal performances for me included his outstanding guitar-work on "Rocket Queen" and a bad ass guitar solo that was about 10 minutes long and somehow not boring. The show concluded with "My Michelle" and "Paradise City" and left everyone wanting more.  I have to admit the venue actually didn't seem as bad (the sound quality was a lot higher than I had heard it at past shows) and overall Slash's solo show proved to be one of my tops for 2010.

New Band Of The Week - Deathspell Omega!

Deathspell Omega are a French black metal band that formed in 1998 and largely began off with a very tradition, lo-fi form of black metal along the lines of bands like Mayhem and Darkthrone.  As a fan of that style of music, there is nothign wrong with the early albums, but for me Deathspell really stepped into their own skin in 2004 with the release of the Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice which explored choral music, hi-fi production and overall more experimental and technical level of playing from the band.  Since then, the band has only pushed this sound further with Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum (released in 2007) and most recently, Paracletus (2010).  These last two albums are the first two of a set of three, with the third's release date still unknown.  The trilogy explores the subject of man's relationship with God and Satan.
Part of Deathspell's charm is the air of mystery that surrounds them.  Although there is a myspace page to keep listeners informed, it's only fan-run, and there is no official website online.  The band members are unknown, the fan page does claim:
There is no concrete information on the enigmatic members of the band; only rumours. The main one is that Hasjarl and Shaxul teamed up to form Deathspell Omega after the split of Hirilorn in 1998. Mikko would have eventually joined the band to replace Shaxul on vocals in 2003 for the recording of SMRC.
Interesting.  Check them out below!
