Band Of The Week - AVATAR! (Plus their new video)

This weeks BOTW is both Swedish and avant-garde, whilst maintaining their industrial-death metal integrity. Sound too fabulous to be true?  Meet Avatar, who are not new to the metal scene at all, but have just released an official video for their upcoming single “Smells Like A Freakshow”, which is from their fourth studio album Black Waltz.  The Johan Carlen-directed video shows each member of the band playing the role of the tormentor and the tormented, inflicting one horrific pain after another upon themselves.  This is like a big orgy for me, considering its a theatrical combo of metal and horror.......  and their Swedes!   Check it out below.

Frontman Johannes Eckerström states, “The video illustrates inner conflict in an explicit manner, using abuse of unjust power in different contexts. The lyrical themes of downfall, embracing of decadence and failed attempts to escape are pointed out by the fact that ultimately the bad guys win.“

One more reason reason Sully Erna is a pain in the ass

As if his tear tattoo, Napolean complex, and denial of ripping off Alice In Chains wasn't enough, now we have another reason to verify that Sully Erna sucks.  At a recent Godsmack concert at the Mohegan Sun Sully went into a 'motivational rant' to get the audience pumped and jumping around midway through the song "Whatever".  The rant in and of itself is annoying, but the most charming part is when he calls Scott Stapp a "faggot" (about 6:15 into the video).   I'm no big defender of all-things-Creed but, seriously?  Who uses the f word anymore?  Especially when your fanbase is largely young and impressionable.  Sully needs to put on some highheels and walk his 5'4'' ass back to Boston where he can drink Miller Lite with college girls.

Sidenote: I actually like Godsmack more than a lot of radio-rock bands, and think Shannon Larkin is a pretty solid drummer.  But geez, Sully is another story.

The video for the third single off of Rammstein's Liebe Ist Für Alle Da! was released today.  Although I am not too keen on the the direction they have gone musically, I gotta admit that they always have interesting videos. (minus that video for 'Pussy' which was just trying to hard.)

Pantene is a hosting a new online reality show about the quest to find their next spokesmodel.  To help with the announcement of this ridiculous gimmick, was BRET MICHAELS.  That's right!  Bret Michaels working in conjunction with a HAIR PRODUCT line.  Does anyone one else see any inconsistencies with this?
The video is boring, but the thought of using a man with a dead animal on his head as a hair spokesman is hilarious.

I actually feel bad for pickin' on the poor guy about his hair.  But if there was any doubt about that mop on his head being a wig, please check out this video.

Quite possibly the greatest thing I ever did see

Introducing your new favorite band - Hevisaurus.   Hevisaurus are dinosaur metal.  For kids.  And they are Finnish.

Supposedly the band is composed of ex-Dio members and a few from Sonata Arctica.  They wanted to make a heavy metal band for kids, and naturally they should be in dinosaur costumes. 

New Korn - still bad, but getting better.

The 90s treated Korn like Gods, the 00's treated them like shit.  Let's see what the 10's have in store for the few remaining members of Korn who are still sticking in there.

Here is a live version of a new Korn song, scheduled to be the first single off their upcoming cd, Korn III: Remember Who you are.  The song is 'Oildale'.  I expect that Korn will keep playing this song live on the tour leading to this summers album release.


The sound quality isn't that great, but I do think this is an improvement from the last few Korn releases. What are your thoughts?

This is really delayed....

...but I never caught wind of this anti-Prop 8 video done by Slash and Perla.  

Good for them.  More recently, in an interview with The Quietus, Slash said the following about gay marriage:

The thing was that they wanted to pass a law so that one way or the other it was either going to be legal to have gay marriage in California, or illegal. You had to vote on it, and that was Proposition 8 — if you voted for it, it meant that it would become illegal, and if you voted against it meant that gays could get married. Now, I've been in Los Angeles for a lot of years and with West Hollywood being very close — and having lived in West Hollywood — I have a lot of gay friends; my wife especially has a lot of gay friends and when that was all going on we just felt that we should be supportive. At this point it's ridiculous that two people, regardless of their sex, can't get married. It just seems stupid.

New J-video

A new video for my favorite Japanese boys, Dir En Grey, has been released for the song Hageshisa to, 'Kono Mune no Naka de Karamitsuita Shakunetsu no Yami'.  It's pretty bad ass.  I love the vocals at 2:11. 

Bert Michaels on Lopez tonight

Bret Michaels was on Lopez Tonight on the 2nd.   Basically he talks about how being a rockstar with a bachelor type reality show is not a bad gig.   His wig still looks ridiculous, but his face bloat seems to have settled down.

An Unnecessary cover is actually good

Everyone in their right mind knows Metallica's 'And Nothing Else Matters'.  Well, now this Dutch violinist known as Karianne Brouwer covered the song.  I actually think it's pretty awesome, despite the fact that Metallica does not need another one of their songs covered.

Update on Alice Cooper & Rob Zombie's Gruesome Twosome tour

Alice Cooper is probably my second favorite artist of all time, so I am allowed to poke a bit of harmless fun at him.  This promo for the upcoming Gruesome Twosome tour looks like it's a show meant for an Elementary School's Halloween party.  The live show will be lots of fun, I am sure (although Rob Zombie will have to kick it up a few notches- recently his tours haven't been that great), but shit.. this promo is silly.  I wish they featured more music and less of the cheese.  I've always loved both of these artist mostly for the music- the campy stage show is fun, but should come second!



No new dates have been announced yet, but I anticipate them to be released within the next few days.
