Bill Aucoin turns 66(6)

I'd like to wish a very happy birthday to the man that contributed to making Gene Simmons a very wealthy man, Mr. Bill Aucoin.   Aucoin managed KISS from 1973-82.... arguably KEY years for making KISS who they are.

Oh, and now he manages Lordi.  I guess he has a thing for ridiculous stage costumes.

Like a fine wine, some people get better with age.  I would not say Tommy Lee is one of those people, but for turning 48 today and partying for most of those years, I would say he looks damn good.

Politics and metal... yup, it happens

It was 9 years ago today that W. declared a "war on terror" to Congress and the American people.  Damn, this has been going on a long time!  Anywho, naturally lots of war/politically based songs popped up everywhere after this happened, and the lovely world of metal is no different.  I could only think of Avenged Sevenfold's "Critical Acclaim" when it came down to pro-war songs, but I could think of plenty anti-war songs and bands in general.  I made a play list of some of the better ones:

That Other Iron Maiden Singer...

If you are reading this blog then the chance is that you do know who Iron Maiden's other singer was.... Blaze Bayley.  But to most of the world, only good ol' cousin Brucey Dickinson and perhaps his precursor, Pail Di'Anno go remembered.  Blaze really was a pretty decent singer, but the bottom line was that he wasnt Bruce and the role as new frontman for Maiden is just far too hard to fill at this point.   People expect a certain sound/image at a Maiden show and Blaze never really was a fit.
Anyway, Mr. Bayley turns the healthy age of 47 today and I thought I would give a nod to him by making a playlist of some of his solo material.  It's not life-changing, but it's fun to listen to here and there.

Iggy Pop lives on, but obscure glam metal nonstar dies

...Happy Birthday to Mr. Iggy Pop who turns 63 today.

It's amazing that Iggy Pop is still alive. Lets all drink to that. But let's also take a minute to be sad about the passing of Vinnie Chas. You most likely have no idea who he is, but he was the original bassist for cheesy glam band Pretty Boy Floyd. As much as their band didnt make a huge splash, it's still sad to hear of some one so young dying. RIP, buddy. There were a few of us metal addicts who knew who Pretty Boy Floyd were. Best to your family.

Iced Earth

In honor of Matt Barlows birthday let's take a minute to recognize the greatness of Iced Earth.  I loved their music with Ripper Owens, but to me Iced Earth is always better with Barlow.
